Dagon Apparel Company is pleased to announce that world-renowned guide, filmmaker and traveling angler Jako Lucas has joined Dagon as a Partner and Ambassador. Dagon’s focus from the beginning has been to design high end performance apparel for anglers and having Jako join our team as a partner is a reflection on the success we are having in achieving this goal. In addition to testing and representing the brand all over the world at some of the most exotic locations, Jako will also be helping the team with new product development and our marketing efforts. As part of our partnership with Jako, we will additionally launch a new and exciting sister company that will be focused on the next generation of angler. Stay tuned for information about this new lifestyle brand.
Raised in South Africa, Jako Lucas has fished many of South Africa’s premier fresh and saltwater destinations since he was four years old, and represented his province and country in various competitions throughout his youth. After completing a Bachelors degree in marketing at the University of Johannesburg, he moved to London, where he began working at Farlows of Pall Mall. He started full-time guiding in 2006, and also taught himself about effective photography and filming techniques. (Jako’s film and photography work can be seen at https://captjackproductions.com). He is an accomplished angler offering over a decade of guiding, that includes six years in Mongolia, five in Norway, ten in various locales in the Indian Ocean including Astove and Providence, and several other locations. He has fished across the globe and has won numerous awards for his film making through Capt Jack Productions.
We are very excited to have Jako join our company as a Partner and Ambassador.
Starting Dagon Apparel Co has been a dream that I've had for several years. The dream of creating my own fishing apparel line that would offer shirts that had both high functionality and style was finally too hard to resist its call. I have worn the usual suspect brands of fishing shirts over the years but have never settled on any one brand I particularly liked. It either didn’t have the right pockets, the right style, or the right fit for me. In particular, I wanted certain types of pockets where I could stuff exactly what I wanted to fish within them so I didn’t need a bunch of other gear hanging on me, getting in the way, or slowing me down trying to get to it when there were fish ready to be caught. I wanted to bring more functionality to rolling up sleeves so line won’t tangle in them or they don’t flap loosely during a cast. And of course I wanted some style when I donned on a shirt. I just didn’t want to look like the twin of “that guy” in the other boat that had ran out to the closest sporting goods store to buy his first fishing shirt.
Dagon was founded to design stylish, highly functional fishing shirts that fishermen would get real excited about to wear. Shirts that would match the passion we share for fishing. I thought, “if we can build somebody's favorite shirt to wear fishing, then we might be able to build a business around that.” If we cannot, then we have failed in our mission. We hope that you, our customers, will help us achieve our mission – that some of our shirts will become your favorites to wear. As we create other products outside of shirts, such as pants, shorts, shoes, hats, or whatever we make, we hope that those products too will become somebody's favorite item to wear when they fish. If we can achieve our vision of building the favorite fishing apparel for our customers, the dream of building up a successful fishing apparel brand will take care of itself.
I have purchased 3 shirts and what appeals most to me is the versatility. I wear them to work and on weekends, fishing or not. I have received compliments on the dark green shirt with the orange highlight from several people. The color and fit have lasted thru several washings or dry cleanings which is always appreciated.
Received a Dagon shirt as a gift and it is one of the best shirts that I own. The quality is next to none and it feels great on. I was able to wear it fly fishing and to dinner! Definitely need a few more of these shirts in my wardrobe.
Purchased a total of 21 Taylor River shirts in the 3 available colors in sizes L, XL and XXL for myself, my sons, fishing buddies and some guides at fishing lodges I frequent. To a man they loved the shirt styling and functionality! The shirts are all now in use in CO, MT, WY, CT, NY, NC and TX. If you ever make a 3XL please count me in for 3 more Taylor Rivers!
The Dagon Original is my new favorite fishing shirt. As compared with the competition, it is far better designed and constructed. In particular, the pockets are so superior that for the first time in 30 years of fishing, I’m leaving a vest behind. All I need is my Dagon shirt.
I purchased the Dagon Original shirt and Power Lake pullover and have been impressed with the quality and attention to detail of the shirt. I’m not much of a fisherman so probably won’t use all of the technical features (of which there are many) but I like the feel of the fabrics (especially the Power Lake pullover), the sleeve fastening system and waterproof cellphone pocket (on the Original shirt). Plus, I’ve received compliments on the “look” of the shirt when I wear it out around town. Try and you won’t be disappointed!
