Built by the Water: Corby Robertson III’s Story

Most brands are born in boardrooms. Dagon was born in the Texas coastal flats. Corby Robertson III doesn’t guess what anglers want. He’s lived it. Fought it. Fished through it.

This blog post is an exploration of his story, and you’ll also discover the reason behind Dagon's birth.

Born for the Water

Corby’s passion for fishing didn’t start in a magazine or by watching YouTube videos. It began as a barefoot kid on Sunday Beach in Port O’Connor, Texas. At three, he was already exploring shorelines. By five, he was hauling bass out of East Texas lakes with a Zebco 202. At eight, he was wading the saltwater shallows with his grandfather, “Big Daddy,” chasing speckled trout and redfish.

That’s not a hobby. That’s a calling.

And it wasn’t long before the rivers got bigger and the fish more exotic. Corby’s first taste of fly fishing came at thirteen, casting into the Yellowstone River in Montana. From there, the story exploded. If a fish would eat a fly, Corby was coming for it, from baby brook trout to 800-pound marlin. His journey includes adventures across Texas lakes, the Gulf Coast, the Bahamas, Mexico, Belize, Canada, South America, Central America, Mongolia, and the Seychelles.

Why Was Dagon Born?

For all those years on the water, Corby noticed something missing. The gear? It was fine, but it never had perfection. Fishing shirts were either too boxy, too baggy, or had useless gimmicks. None of the apparel was built for folks who lived in the heat, chased Redfish through shin-deep flats, or had to strip line in a hurry without sleeves getting in the way.

So Corby did what any Texan worth his salt would do. He built it himself.

That’s how Dagon Apparel came into existence. Named after an ancient Babylonian fish god, Dagon was designed for anglers who never settle for second best. Shirts with sensible and water-resistant pockets, sleeves that stay in place, light, breathable fabrics, and a style that symbolizes your passion for angling without needing to brag about it. Every product is vetted by professionals and built for your story.

The Mudder Boots Story

If you’ve ever tried chasing a Redfish across a back lake and found yourself sinking to your knees in sticky mud, you’ll need to hear this next part. After sacrificing one too many pairs of Crocs and losing more footing than he cared to admit, he discovered Mudder Boots, a small brand making boots built for one job: walking freely through mud and staying upright.

A phone call later, and Corby wasn’t just a customer; he owned the company! The original owners were ready to pass it on, and Corby knew it fit perfectly with the Dagon spirit: gear built by outdoorsmen for outdoorsmen. These boots have quietly made their way to fishermen, duck hunters, military groups, and rescue crews around the world.

A Voice from the Water: Corby on the Laguna Podcast

Check out his recent sit-down on the Laguna Podcast on Apple and Spotify. It’s a rare, no-BS chat about everything from his first bass on a topwater in East Texas to chasing giant trevallies in the Seychelles. No corporate script, no fluff, just the kind of stories you swap around a tailgate with a cold beer in hand. It’s proof that Dagon isn’t built by suits. It’s built by scars, sweat, and stubborn anglers.

Why It All Matters

At the end, Dagon isn’t the hero of this story. You are. We’re just the loyal sidekick, making gear that won’t let you down when you are chasing a redfish tail fifty yards down the flat. Corby built this brand because he needed it, and chances are, so do you.

This is Dagon - Built for your story.
